Angel of the Fallen

This song was written on the 10th anniversary of September 11. It was inspired by the Naudet brothers’ re-released 9/11 documentary about the NYC firefighters of Engine 7, Ladder 1. This film opened my eyes to the continued physical suffering faced today by many of the firefighters who worked at Ground Zero. I felt a heaviness inside for days, then began to hear this song in my head. With the song came a clear visual image of an angelic woman figure dressed in white walking.

Angel of the Fallen

Lyrics:

SHE WALKS BESIDE TEN THOUSAND SOLDIERS
SHE HOLDS BOUQUETS OF PITCH BLACK ROSES
SHE CARRIES HEARTS AND WORDS AND LOST CHANCES
TO PLACES WE DON’T YET KNOW

THE WIND BLOWS THROUGH HER LONG DARK TRESSES
SHE WEARS A LONG WHITE FLOWING DRESS
SHE WALKS AHEAD BUT NEVER LEAVES
SHE’S OUR ANGEL OF THE FALLEN

SHE WALKS DOWN CHURCH STREET EACH HARVEST MOON
WITH GENTLE TEARS SHE CARRIES LOVE
SHE WALKS DOWN CHURCH STREET EACH HARVEST MOON
AND TAKES OUR HEARTS TO THOSE ABOVE

SHE CARRIES ON NEXT TO OUR SOLDIERS
SO MANY PLACES ON THE GLOBE
SHE’S OUR ANGEL OF THE FALLEN
BORN SEPTEMBER ELEVEN 2001

SHE WALKS DOWN CHURCH STREET EACH HARVEST MOON
WITH GENTLE TEARS SHE CARRIES LOVE
SHE WALKS DOWN CHURCH STREET EACH HARVEST MOON
AND TAKES OUR HEARTS TO THOSE ABOVE
